Yet more information coming from within the Halo 3 beta source files, only this time not discovered by us. In fact, we can’t seem to find these ourselves (looking through the beta code is a mammoth task) but given that the new maps featured in upcoming magazines are being referred to as Shrine, Epitaph and Last Resort, along with the sighting of Warthog Inc. in one of the earlier Bungie ViDocs, these certainly seem plausible.
We’ll let you make your own mind up on this one.

Remember, this is all rumour for now – and we’ll keep searching for more concrete evidence, but if previously reported findings are anything to go by, there could be some truth in these after all.
Thanks to Tiger’s post in our comments section, we have now found mention of these maps within the beta source code.
So this’ll be what you’re looking out for in the shops. That is, if you haven’t already set your sights on the Legendary edition.
I kinda like it.
Over at ascendantjustice.com, Drew spotted something interesting in the background of one of the GamePro scans – is this a new Warthog variant?
It sure looks a lot like a flamethrower rests on the back of the hog where the machine gun would normally be to us, but maybe it’s all just an illusion caused by something else in the background. After the discovery of new medals for incinerating opponents with a flame based weapon, we knew the flamethrower would finally be back, but a flaming hog? We’d never of guessed.
We expect to hear more from Bungie on this when these images are officially released sometime soon.
The Brute equivalent to the Ghost, this one man meaty monstrosity is apparently far more stable and harder to roll than it’s covenant little brother, despite it’s motorcycle aesthetic.
Roughly the same size as a Warthog and sporting twin Brute Shots attached to either side it’s simply devastating.
It certainly looks impressive. When we first heard about the inclusion of a new Brute vehicle for Halo 3, we were more than a little sceptical. But who can argue with this bad-ass Harley Davidson looking killing machine?
September just can’t come soon enough.
Earlier today we reported of scans of magazine articles showing many of the new features for Halo 3.
The scans were poor quality at best, which made it hard to see just how cool this new stuff looks, but we’ve managed to track down some more online.
Oh, and a couple of biggies too. Click to enlarge.
Looks a lot like the armour seen on the cover of Ghosts of Onyx, don’t you think? Apparently we haven’t seen all types of MJOLNIR armour after all…
Well, well, well… it all seems to be true.
Scans from the upcoming issue of GamePro magazine hit the web today showing new pics of many of the forthcoming features we’ve been talking about here at 7th Columnist.
Not that we ever doubted ourselves, but some of our readers certanily did.
Check out all the lovely scans below, we’ll be updating this post with higher quality images the second we can.
Custom Spartan Armour
Just as we reported, new custom armour types will be available for use in mutliplayer.
The Brute Chopper is an evil looking machine that packs two cannons and its spinning blade will destroy anything in its path.
Big and bulky, the Wraith looks to be quite similar to how it appeared in Halo 2, except featuring second turret for additional players.
The Energy Sword has undergone two significant changes to help with balancing issues. Bungie has added a weapon switching delay when equipping the Sword and it will also run on a battery.
The Magnum too has undergone some changes. It now holds eight rounds to a clip, still doesn’t include a scope, shoots slower, but each shot will bring on more damage. A siginificant upgrade to its Halo 2 counterpart.
When deployed, this equipment item will cause all nearby players radars to go nuts. Showing those little red dots everyhere!
“A UNSC battle cruiser looms menacingly over Shrine’s sprawling sand dunes. Shrine is the largest map ever to appear in a Halo game, so Bungie put a key emphasis on vehicle-on-vehicle combat. Shrine has few ties to older Halo 2 maps, but its massive size recalls Relic.”
“Epitaph is an arcane Forerunner cathedral-like structure that towers above the surrounding wasteland. The central killing floor is crisscrossed with elevated walkways, exterior hallways, and lifts. It’s a spiritual successor to Halo 2 maps like Colossus, Gemini, and Midship.”
“Zanzibar, one of Halo 2’s most beloved maps, has been rebuilt and rechristened Last Resort for Halo 3. This industrial site is almost twice as big, with a less cluttered internal layout and more paths into the flag room.”
So there you have it, it’s beginning to happen. Halo 3 is edging ever closer to release and details/rumours are coming to fruition.
Hopefully this will help add weight to our findings here at 7th Columnist as we’ve still a thing or two left for your enjoyment and shall be posting more on this soon.
In the meantime… get very excited.
Apparently expoiting the same glitch used to have a wander through Halo 3’s custom games menus, chaosdude78 and some friends were able to launch a custom ‘Escort’ match allowing them to see and use the pistol for the first time in Halo 3.
It doesn’t tell us much of what the pistol will be like in the final game, but it sure is nice to see it again…
Does this mean we’ll see Escort added to the playlists before the beta ends? We certainly hope so.
